WHAT'S GOING ON AT ClineCON?

What kinds of games will be played at ClineCON? ClineCON is open to war, historical, and Euro board wargaming, role playing games (RPGs), miniatures games, Collectible Card Games (CCGs) & Non Collectible Card Games (NCGs), Collectible Card Miniatures (CCMs), abstract board strategy games, historical and other miniatures, and any sort of strategy table-top gaming. Experimental events will comprise only a minority of events at ClineCON.

What Events Are Planned for ClineCON? The ClineCON Event Schedule has been posted here. Possible Events include new game demonstrations, learn and play events, and tournaments, and some unique and experimental events. Here are descriptions of Events currently scheduled for ClineCON:

GAME DESIGNER DEMOS

Lazo is a three-dimensional two player abstract strategy game. The tiles stack like cannonballs. Players compete to make a loop of their color either vertically or horizontally. The tactics are sharp, and a game can end quickly, but experienced players may build a position several layers high.

Gridwar is a two player abstract strategy game using the same board and pieces as Lazo. However, Gridwar features zones of control, piece capture and movement, and piece promotion, thus making it a hybrid abstract and regular tactical wargame.

Trap Y is an abstract two player game which is played on a grid of hexagons in the overall shape of a trapezoid. It is based on a predecessor, Star Y, and uses the same pieces as Lazo and Gridwar.

Board Gaming Events

OOPS! ClineCON will feature unique Obscure Out-of-Print Select (OOPS) boardgame events. These OOPS boardgame events are Game Mastered, slightly convention modified versions of board games that "didn't make it" (admittedly, often for good reason) in the wild world of boardgaming. Rules will be taught before the events. Come over and join in the fun, unique experience of games you may never see again!
Whiz Kids Events
Zombie Master (Level 1) Bill "Muerto" Esch will host a
"Horror Clix at Midnight Marathon"
just in time for our favorite scary holiday! Click here to see Bill's forum post on Its Wicked Fun, "Your HorrorClix News and Information Site."

Up to 20 players can participate in each event which will last about two and a half hours each. Players can bring their own favorite horror figures, or Bill Esch will provide figures and other game equipment for the events. Prizes may be given out to participants.

Will there be open gaming space? Yes, space permitting, there will be open gaming areas at ClineCON. It is currently anticipated that there will be more than twenty open gaming tables at ClineCON. Open gaming is the "endangered species" of the gaming convention experience, that ClineCON is committed to preserve.

What about vendors, what about a "dealer's area?" Yes, there will be dealers and vendors at ClineCON. You can buy new games and play them too at ClineCON!

Can I sell my stuff at the convention? Only approved vendors and dealers will be allowed to sell at the convention. Any non-vendor found selling anything at the convention will be asked to leave.

What about food? Do you KNOW what happens when gamers get HUNGRY? Dice are not a recommended dietary supplement. In addition to the many restaurants and fast food establishments in walking distance of the Convention Center, ClineCON will also feature an on-the-convention-floor concession stand selling sodas, hot dogs, hamburgers, and other favorites of hungry gamers who want to bite something between turns. The concession stand will be open for four hours each on Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

All attendees who pre-register for Saturday and Sunday will receive a Hungry Gamers Saving Throw certificate good for $2.50 off food sold by the Levy Restaurants on the Convention Floor. Food will be available between noon and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

What about Security? What if someone fails their "saving throw"? As required by the Convention Center, a Convention Center security guard will be in the convention area during the entire event. Be nice to the security guard, please.
